Idli upma as the name suggests upma made of idlis.But why should we prepare this kind of a recipe when we can eat the idli alone? Yes,Thats the best way to use the left over breakfast idlis into another healthier and chatpata snack.I found that nobody prefers idlis in the evening as snack,so tried my mom's recipe with a few more additions and believe me kids loved this very much.Don't trash your left out idlis instead try this healthy snack or quick dinner !!

Ingredients
idli 10 (3 cups roughly chopped)
onion 1,half moon sliced
green chilli 3 round cut
ginger 1tsp chopped
tomato 1 medium size chopped
chana dal 1tsp
mustard seeds 1/2tsp
sambar powder 2tsp
idli milagu podi 1 tbsp(optional)
curry leaves
salt
oil 3tsp
lime juice 1tsp(optional)
Method
*Don't add too much salt as idli already contains salt.

sambar powder 2tsp
idli milagu podi 1 tbsp(optional)
curry leaves

Method
- Roughly chop the idlis,Keep aside separately.Chop onion ,green chillies,ginger,tomatoes too.
- Heat oil in a pan,splutter mustard seeds,curry leaves.Add the chana dal and saute 1/2 a minute.
- Put the onion,ginger and green chilli ,saute until its translucent or lightly browned.Add salt lightly.
- Add in the chopped tomatoes and keep cooking till its mushy in consistency.
- Add sambar powder and salt.Saute again.
- Slide in the roughly chopped idlis,cover & steam the upma for a minute.(Add a gash of water or sprinkle water if its too dry)
- Add the lime juice (if using) and toss with idli milagu podi.'
- Serve warm with tea or coffee.

oh wow! I absolutely love the sound of this recipe and the pictures. I'm an idli fan, but not always an upma fan (unless it's my mom's), but this combination of the two sounds great and is a fantastic idea for using old idlis! Mmmmmm!
