Plaited Bread (Sweet filling )

Weekends get over very soon... But there is a good thing over every weekend , we can aspire for the next coming weekend.Back to blogging, after a short break.
Today technology has advanced at every extent in life. The same goes true in case of kitchen accessories.Conventional oven at home gave an ample oppurtunity to bake /broil many food items. There by reducing the usage of oil and many fat free recipes too.Breads baked at home are full of satisfaction and a healthy version ;guilt free one :-)

This plaited bread was bookmarked from Nitha's Amateur perception. She has wonderful recipes in her blog. She had prepared both sweet n spicy filling. But I just took out the sweet one, prepared it.The bread came out very good and all liked it with  a hot cup of tea. That reminded me of dilkush which we get it in bakeries back in Kerala.

Ingredients

all purpose flour 3 cups
yeast 1tbsp
leukwarm water 1/4 cup
leukwarm milk 1/4cup
sugar 1tsp
egg 1
salt 1/2tsp
butter 1/4cup
egg 1 for glaze

for filling\
coconut 1/2 cup
sugar 4tsp
mixed nuts (I used cashew, raisins, and cake fruit mix,you can use your preferred nuts)
cardamom 2 tsp powdered

Method

  • Mix the leukwarm water, milk, sugar and yeast ,wait for a while to rise.
  • Mix this mixture with the other ingredients and make a dough.
  • Leave this for 2 hours to rise and double its volume.
  • In the mean time, prepare the filling by mixing the grated coconut, nuts and cardamom powder.
  • After 2 hours, make two balls of equal size .Roll one ball on an aluminium foil in the shape of a rectangle.
  • Place the filling in the centre as shown and cut ribbon stripes .

  • Fold these stripes as plaiting and cover the filling.

  • Brush the top with egg for glaze and leave aside.
  • Pre heat oven to 350 degrees and transfer the plaited bread in the aluminium foil in the tray.
  • Bake for 30 minutes.Cool before cutting into pieces.
  • Serve with tea / coffee.

NOTES
* You can preserve for 2 days in air tight containers.
* You can fill this bread with vegetable or meat filling instead of sweet filling and make the same bread.
