Moongdal - Rice Khichadi | Quick & Easy,One Pot Meal & A Liebster Award !!

Challenging recipes  are good to try and feel satisfied if the outcome is good,so was my trial to the Sponge Cake Roll and am very happy to receive the shower of comments from all my readers, friends.Thank you all and wishing to receive the same encouragements every time.Today's recipe is a very simple comfort food recipe which even a beginner can try and always that will sure be a one pot meal for a busy day or a lazy day of course. This can also be done as a lunch box idea for kids.During college days and as hostlers we used to receive this menu for a dinner every week.We used to literally wait for this yummy food to be served with rasam and pappad. That's how I tasted this khichadi in the beginning and now it has  become a part of the monthly menu in my home.My kids love this recipe a lot, as they don't have to be prompted to eat curries, stir fry separately.Try it and enjoy!!

Ingredients
*sona masoori rice / basmati rice 1 1/2 cups
split moong dal 1/2 cup
onion 1/2 medium sized chopped small
garlic 3-4 pods sliced
*butter or ghee 2 tsp
mustard seeds 1/2 tsp
peppercorn 5-6 (optional)
cinnamon 1''
cloves 2-3
cumin powder 1/2 tsp
chilly powder 1/2 tsp
turmeric powder 1/3 tsp
curry leaves
salt
water 3 3/4 cups

Method
Heat the cooker on low flame and add ghee /butter into it.Splutter mustard seeds, add curry leaves, then fry the cinnamon ,cloves, peppercorns.
Saute the chopped onions and sliced garlic.
Wash the moong dal and add to the cooker after draining the water and roast it for 2 minutes. Then add the required water, add the rice and add in the spice powders and salt.
Close the cooker and cook for 2-3 whistles on medium heat.
Wait till the pressure is released and then open the lid.
I served it hot with raitha and mulagu kondattam !!

Servings 4 adults

TIPS
*You can use any other rice but should be accurate about the quantity of water  required to cook the rice.
*You can use oil instead of butter or ghee but it tastes good with butter or ghee.
*Don't add in more water unless you vary with the type of rice other wise it will be very mushy.
