I saw avocado for the first time in US ,never seen this in India. And by the looks(not very pleasing),it is a long green pear shape with pebbly skin, untill I saw the guacamole dip, salads in restaurants which were appetizing. But then trying at home still was pending. And finally the day arrived !!I just happened to pick up the right one,not over ripened not too tight ones.Washed and cut it into two halves and inside its fleshy sea green in color ; scooped out the pulp.Very well thought...all this is leading to the keralites favorite chammanthi(chutney) , so another variant to the traditional one n yet another hit to my family -Avocado chutney!!
Ingredients
avocado 1
coconut 1/3 cup
pearl onion 5-6
green chillies 3-4
ginger 1/2'' shredded
tamarind 1gooseberry size
lemon juice 2tsp
salt
Method-
-Wash and cut the avocado in two halves.Scoop out the pulp and keep aside.
-Grind the coconut with all other ingredients except avocado and lemon juice.\
-Add the avocado once its 3/4th ground.
-Place it in a bowl and pour the lemon juice.Mix well and serve with idli, dosas or even with steamed rice!!
Servings~ small bowl of chutney
NOTES
* The taste is not different from that of coconut chutney but the texture is more smooth and color is sea green.
*The lemon juice is optional if you prefer a little sour taste.I love it in chutneys:-)
