Sandwiches are a quick option for breakfast but am the last person to make sandwiches until I tasted this one.I haven't posted any sandwich recipe till date in this space too as I hardly make sandwiches. As strawberries are in season,I just mixed and matched which worked out really good. The tanginess of strawberries with bell pepper complimented well.I added the green spicy chutney for us,however kids loved it without any chutneys.I don't have a toaster at home and I think, you the know the reason now.I used a simple way that anyone can try at home and prepare toasted sandwiches(details below).I used ghee to toast as that adds immense flavor to the sandwich and I think ghee/butter is much better than the other products available in market.I have used American cheese but you can use cheese slices of your choice.Give this a try before the strawberry season gets over !!
Preparation time~10 minutes
Cooking time ~3 minutes/sandwich
Serves~4 sandwiches
Ingredients
bread 8 slices
cheese slices 4
spicy green chutney 2tbsp
ghee/butter to smear on top
for filling
bell pepper finely chopped 1/2 of 1
strawberries hulled and chopped 2-3 large
onion 1/2 of medium sized one
boiled potato 1/2 of a medium sized
cilantro chopped 1tbsp
pepper powder to taste
chat masala to taste
salt to taste
Method
NOTES
* I have used honey wheat bread but you can use bread of your choice.
* Adding green chutney adds flavor, you can omit if you don't like that way.
* I have even tried using green apple instead of strawberries which worked good too but for kids it becomes less appealing in terms of color.

Method
- Wash, hull and chop the strawberries fine.Chop the bell pepper(I used green) fine and add to a bowl.Add in mashed potato(binds the strawberry and bell pepper),chopped cilantro, onion.Toss with chat masala, pepper powder and a little salt(as chat masala has salt).Mix well.
- Take two bread slices, apply the strawberry-pepper mixture on one slice.Apply spicy green chutney on another and place a cheese slice on top.Close the bread slice by placing the cheese bread slice on top.Smear ghee or butter on top.
- Now heat a tawa on medium heat. When hot, place the bread slice with ghee on tawa.Place a plate on top of the sandwich and place some weight in the center of the plate to apply even pressure(see pics).Reduce heat to low medium and cook for 2 minutes, remove the weight and plate.
- Smear ghee on the top side and flip.Place the plate and weight again and cook for another 1 -1.5 minutes until the other side is crisp and golden brown.
- Wait for a minute and then cut diagonally(I was in a hurry to click pics in the morning so cut it immediately so cheese started oozing out) and serve warm.
