Hope everyone had a splendid Onam celebrations.We had a great one too at a friend's place.We made a potluck sadya and enjoyed the sadya.The hang over of Onam is still on,kids are on their last week of vacations.Next week,on wards there will be morning chaos and it may take another two weeks to put them in track.Also,got to think what to pack for their lunch,snacks and much more.Today's post is a simple bell pepper aka capsicum masala.This is a very tasty and dry dish that can be served as a side dish or can be used a s a filling for wraps.You can make it colorful by using different colors of bell peppers.Do try and enjoy !!

Ingredients
bell pepper 2 large;cubed
onion 1 medium sized;cubed
sesame seeds 1.5tbsp
dry coconut powder 2tbsp
cumin seeds 1/2 tsp
asafoetida powder /kayam podi 1/8 tsp
coriander powder 2tsp
fennel seeds powder 2tsp
red chilli powder 1/2 tsp
turmeric powder/manjal podi 1/4 tsp
dry mango powder/amchoor powder1/2tsp
lemon juice 1tsp
salt to taste
sugar a pinch
oil 2tbsp
Method
* I have used one red and green bell pepper.You can omit the onion too,but I love the flavor so added.
* Sesame seeds powder is added for more flavor but I had only seeds and so added that.
* I served it by filling in chapathis with cooked black beans and guacamole(sorry couldn't click pics then as I was busy preparing).Tastes delicious.

Method
- In a small bowl,mix the dry coconut powder,coriander powder,red chilli powder,fennel seeds powder,salt,sugar.Keep the spice mix ready.
- Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds and once it crackles,add sesame seeds.Add the cubed onion and saute for a min.Add in the cubed bell peppers and saute.Lower heat and cover cook for another 4 minutes.
- Open the lid and add the spice mix and mix well.Keep covered for low medium for another 3-4 minutes until the bell peppers softens slightly(save the crunch & crisp of bell peppers;don't overcook) and onion.
- Finally add the amchoor powder(dry mango powder) and lemon juice.Add salt if required.Turn off heat and fill in wraps(read notes) or serve as side dish.

ReplyDeleteHere the school started a week ago for my kids. Getting busy now a days, so I am missing blogging too :(. The pepper masala looks colorful. Its hard to make the kids eat this healthy veggie, so I sneak them in Omelets.
ReplyDeleteTrue with school to begin a lot of pre planning has to be done, especially on the lunch box aspect. Went through the mayhem of all these last week. This is a very versatile dish with some very nice ingredients like coconut powder, fennel powder, amchoor etc. visually appetizing I love the flavours going on in this dish. Truly delicious.
